Overview of the Role:

+ The role of the Jewish Values Specialist is to create and implement structured secular and educational programs in addition to facilitating the weekly Shabbat program. They will promote learning in a licensed after-school program serving children in grades K-6. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

+ Facilitate Shabbat ceremony each Friday. Discuss the meaning and relevance in a manner all children can relates to, regardless of ethnicity, background or religion.

+ Initiate discussions around Jewish Holidays and Shabbat during staff meetings and determine how to incorporate Jewish learnings within Club J activities

+ Plan and coordinate art activities demonstrating Jewish art and culture throughout the OFJCC

+ Strengthen and build relationships through Jewish learning and values throughout other OFJCC departments and residence in the OFJCC

+ Communicate with staff on an ongoing basis to establish and maintain systems of shared supervision

+ Assist with curriculum and program design as necessary on an ongoing basis and make quality improvement suggestions to the Club J director. Ensure programs meet all licensing, Club J and OFJCC requirements

+ Plan, supervise and implement developmentally appropriate experiences for the after school program based on the goals of the platform. Engage with children through play to broaden their learning experiences

+ Create a consistent learning environment that provides for emotional, cognitive, social and physical growth in children

+ Maintain accurate up to date records for enrollment, communication logs, child observation documents and parent communication

+ Oversee the daily procedures of the Club J afterschool program to ensure smooth daily operations

+ Effectively interact with and supervise school-age children in individual and group settings. Offer clear expressions of expectations when participating in various programs

+ Assist in design interest areas to provide choices, opportunities for safe risks and challenge children to interact, learn, create and thrive while corresponding with the development and individual needs of each child

+ Responsible for daily attendance of children, making sure all children are accounted for and always knowing their whereabouts

+ Pick up children in JCC vans from various schools and safely transport them back to Club J

+ Create and actively promote a comfortable and welcoming environment where every participant is treated with dignity and respect, in a friendly, personalized manner

+ Assist with compliance with Community Care Licensing Regulations and keep current to regulations in order to maintain accreditation status

+ Coordinate monthly fire frills, earthquake drills and annual disaster drills

+ Adhere to and enforce Club J policies and procedures and operate activities in a safe manner

+ Handle and address parent concerns and questions promptly and appropriately; informing Club J director when relevant

+ Be a role model to children and staff by maintaining a positive attitude when interacting with children.

+ Set a good example to children and others in regard to general Club J procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule and sportsmanship

+ Maintain all program equipment and supplies

+ Represents the OFJCC in a professional manner and provides excellent customer service

+ Perform other related duties as assigned by management

Qualifications & Skills:

+ High School Diploma or GED; Associate Degree preferred

+ 1+ year of experience teaching in a licensed child care center or comparable program

+ 2 years of experience in youth program development

+ Experience managing a Shabbat program for children

+ 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development (CD) units or units recognized by Community Care Licensing as qualifying in an afterschool setting.

+ Associate Teacher Permit or Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission of Teacher Credentialing

+ Cleared Background Check (Fingerprints, Child Abuse Index Check and Medical/TB exam)

+ Valid and appropriate California Driver License

+ Safe driving record which meets the OFJCC insurance requirements

+ Pediatric First Aid and CPR Certified

+ Ability to speak Hebrew is a plus

+ Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

+ Ability to communicate information clearly (both written and oral)

+ Ability and desire to work independently and as a team member with the community and other employees

+ Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities when required

+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010
